GAELIC LULLABIES WITH RACHEL WALKER
‘One of the finest singers in the Gaelic tradition’ - At the Barrier
Join Rachel Walker for a heartwarming workshop focussing on tàlaidhean - Gaelic lullabies. Besides being taught the melodies and lyrics, you’ll learn about the stories behind the songs. Often there is more to a lullaby than just a gentle tune that will put a wee one to sleep. Some of the songs give the mother a chance to vent her grievances and put forward her point of view!
There is no requirement to have any experience of Gaelic singing for this workshop – some interest and enthusiasm will go a long way. These songs are just beautiful and a joy to sing as a group.
In addition to being a world class singer, musician and composer, your tutor Rachel Walker is a renowned teacher and conductor. She led the Lochaber District Gaelic Choir until 2022 and currently works as a lecturer in music at the West Highland College UHI. She is also the Gaelic song tutor at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton.
Rachel is also performing with Aaron Jones at The Traverse on Thursday 28 November.
